Finding and Posting Error Log files.

Error log files are key to us solving your problems. Without an error log, we will be unable to determine the origins of the problem.

Log file types
There are two kinds of log files, ingame and external. If the game crashes, it is likely that the error will be store in a file named "error.log". If the game crashes without starting, then it will likely be stored in a file named "hs_err_pid_xxxx" where "xxxx" is a number.

How to find log files

  • Windows:
    • Steam - Steam stores the log files in:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\towns
    • Desura/ GamersGate Client - if you downloaded the game within the desura/GG client the game files, and thus the error logs, are stored in the Desura/GG client folder in program files.
    • BMT/Desura Standalone - the error logs are wherever you launch towns from when you downloaded the game.
  • Mac:
    • Steam - Steam stores files in /Users/{YOURNAME}/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/towns
NOTE: In order to enter the Library folder inside of your user folder within OSX, you must click the "Go" menu option, then "Go to folder..." and type in the path as Library is hidden by default.

Posting Logs
Now you have your log file, you need to post it here on the forums. These logs can be EXTREMELY long. If you simply copy paste you'll give us a headache reading it! Instead, type:
Code: Select all
-error log here-
