Mask of the Beast bugged

I bought the Mask of the Beast off of a merchant and equipped it to one of my characters. I checked his stats and saw that it changed his stats to levels I didn't like so I unequipped the helmet. Now the character keeps going in and out of Beast mode even though he no longer is wearing the helmet.

Found this post saying it's cursed; does that mean the curse is permanent?

yep. best thing to do IMO is make him a soldier now.

He was already a soldier... It's quite annoying as it also spams my announcement log, I might just wall him up and have him die if there is no way to remove it

You can just modd your effects.xml to make the effect end after a cycle... Rather then repeat.

To do that just go in to the effects.xml(open with notepad preferably) find this bit:

      <name esES="Cansancio">Tiredness</name>

      <speedPCT>40</speedPCT>
      <effectsImmune>beastmask</effectsImmune>
      <afterEffects>beastmask</afterEffects>
      <lasts>500</lasts>
   </effect>


Remove this bit:

<afterEffects>beastmask</afterEffects>


And done.
