Installing Mods with Towns on Steam

Postby bobboy555 » Sat Nov 10, 2012 10:04 pm

Since there isn't (yet) integration with the stem workshop for installing towns mods you have to do it manually. This is really simple. Just navigate to C/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/towns then install mods as usual.

Program Files may be replaced by Program Files(x86) on some systems.

Hope this helps.

Yup.. and you can use the mod manager still.. just have to tell it where the towns.exe file is when you first run it.

if you dont have a Towns.exe
then just make a .txt and rename it to Towns.exe and it will work just as well.

It is what I have been telling people on Steam to do.
Alot safer then getting them to DIY the mods.

Steam doesn't do automatic checking of the game files does it? Like it checks the xml files and finds that they're not the right size or content and so it automatically downloads the originals again and replaces them?

From what I can tell, the Steam version does not automatically "repair" modded files, when opening the game it simply closes again. I've also noticed that I can't just undo the mods, I have to re-install the game for it to run again.

Edit: After some testing I found out that the Steam version files can be modified as well. The issue when I was trying to do it was related to the Spanish characters. Apparently, the text editor I was using was replacing them with block characters, causing the xml parser to fail to read them properly.

Steam does not automatically 'fix' mods. Verifying the cache is usually all that is need to fix 'broken' files, tho.

(this topic should be moved to the Modding forum)

I know this topic is pretty old now, but I just got the game and am trying to make some simple mods.
Is there a good program to read/save the xml files that will properly recognize and not change the Spanish characters?
