HELP! Multi-type Zones?

I am trying to make a mod that allows Townies to eat in the tavern and makes the tavern a social zone. I tried the follow codes and it didn't work.

Both of those crashed towns.
For the eating I simply changed
Code: Select all
<eatZone>zdining</eatZone>
to
Code: Select all
<eatZone>ztavern</eatZone>
That also Crashed towns.
I did NOT modify anything else. I didn't remove the code for the dining room. Is that required?
Please help!

I think the issue maybe the zones can't be 2 types.. Did you try changing the eat zone with out making the tavern a social zone? That should work fine..

also go in to your error log and post what it says in that.. if anything?

no zones can not be two types as far as I know, but I also haven't played around with zones in a while so......
but yea, if you post the error log we can narrow it down to what the problem is.

Nope zones can not be two types... same way as Items can not be two types... This would however make alot of things possible...

Ok, time for one of my patented and tradmarked Crazy Ideas... :lol:

What about having 2 zones which work like the arena and balcony; one is for eating and the other is for socialising? Both are called "tavern" zones, and could use the same floor image. You could lay down the "eating part"of the tavern, then put the socialising part around/beside/inside/wherever in relation to the "tavern dining area", possibly even connecting multiple patches of "dining area" with social zones. You could have charis clustered around tables in the eating areas, while the social areas have decorations, chairs for relaxing in, chess tables, fire places... that kind of thing.

The crux of the idea is that you need to lay down the eating area first in order to use the social area - in effect, the socialisation happens around the eating area rather than in it.

Anything I post publicly in a thread is a 'suggestion' - feel free to use it, and to ask any further questions if you run into snags. :)

However, you may want to shoot a PM off to ericb1800 - he's working on an unrelated idea right now, but it could mesh beautifully with a customisable tavern zone which servers as both eating and idling area. You probably could make your mod work in with other mods by default (replace the vanilla "tavern" zone with your idle zone but use the same entry in zones.xml, and make the vanilla "dining room" the one and only room for dining in; then just replaces the graphics and change the display names, and add the bit that makes one zone need to be placed next to the other then your'e good to go); however, mods always turn out better when they're collaborative as both people bring ideas to the table and two heads are better than one :)
